Stephen Gionta, a Greece, NY native, has carved an extraordinary path in the world of hockey, leaving an indelible mark throughout his illustrious career. Growing up, Gionta honed his skills playing for the Rochester Jr. Americans, igniting his passion for the sport. He attended Aquinas High School, where his dedication and talent shone on and off the ice.

Now residing in Fairport with his wife and children, Gionta continues to inspire as the Jr. Amerks Girls Hockey Director, shaping the lives of young players in the sport he holds dear.

His journey began with the original Rochester Junior A Americans in 1999-2000, earning him a coveted spot in the NAHL All-Star Game at just 16 years old. Later, he excelled in the US National Development program, showcasing his skills and achieving the best face-off percentage at the U18 World Championships.

Gionta's exceptional qualities led him to Boston College, where he distinguished himself both athletically and academically. Making the Hockey East all-academic team, he experienced two Frozen Four appearances, securing a National Championship along the way. As an assistant captain in his senior year, he exhibited remarkable leadership.

Despite going undrafted, Gionta's unwavering determination propelled him to a remarkable 13-year professional career, playing over 700 games. Notably, he served as captain for both the Lowell and Albany Devils in the AHL. In the NHL, he made his mark, playing over 300 games with the New Jersey Devils and the New York Islanders.

Gionta's contributions to the New Jersey Devils' Stanley Cup Finals run in 2012 were invaluable, as he displayed his versatility and tenacity as a 4th line center, contributing 7 points in 24 playoff games. The following year, he proudly represented his country, earning a bronze medal as a member of the 2013 US World Championship team.

Currently serving as a pro scout with the Tampa Bay Lightning, Gionta's invaluable expertise and contributions have played a pivotal role in the team's two Stanley Cup Championships. His commitment to the sport and his integral role in the hockey ops department solidify his status as a true hockey icon.
