Mitch Stephens Named as Travel Director for 9U–12U

We are excited to announce that Mitch Stephens has joined the organization’s leadership team as Travel Director for 9U–12U.

Stephens brings a wealth of experience in player development, having coached and mentored athletes at the youth, collegiate, and professional levels. His background and understanding of the player pathway—from youth hockey to college hockey—will be a tremendous asset to our families, coaches, and players.

Currently entering his ninth season as an assistant coach at SUNY Geneseo, Stephens previously spent five seasons at Cornell University, where he helped develop numerous players who advanced to professional hockey. As a player, he starred at Geneseo before enjoying a six-year professional career in the United States, Germany, and Italy.

Mitch has also been part of the Jr. Amerks family for the past four years, serving as the head coach of our 10U Girls team while also having children in the program. During that time, he has built strong relationships with our players, families, and coaches while becoming a trusted mentor throughout the organization.

Many Jr. Amerks families already experienced Mitch’s leadership this past March when he worked alongside our coaching staff during the 9U–12U evaluation and team selection process. He collaborated with coaches across every age group, helping evaluate players, mentor coaches, and establish our travel teams for the upcoming season. His knowledge, professionalism, and collaborative approach made an immediate impact.

As Travel Director for 9U–12U, Mitch will provide leadership for our youngest travel teams by supporting coaches, enhancing player development, and helping families navigate the path through youth hockey and beyond. His extensive playing and coaching background, along with his firsthand understanding of what it takes to reach the college level, will be an invaluable resource for our organization.
