Jr. Amerks 10U Players Participate in ‘Grow with the Pros’ Mentor Program with Rochester Americans
Last week, 25 of our Rochester Jr. Americans 10U players had the incredible opportunity to spend the day with the Rochester Americans as part of the ‘Grow with the Pros’ Mentor Program. This unique experience, led by Amerks defenseman Zach Metsa, gave our young athletes an up-close look at life as a professional hockey player while helping them develop their skills both on and off the ice.
The day began with our players attending an Amerks practice, where they watched the team prepare for upcoming AHL matchups. They had the chance to observe the speed, intensity, and precision of professional hockey firsthand. Following practice, our players took to the ice themselves, participating in a special skills session alongside Amerks players and coaches. The experience allowed them to learn from some of the best in the business while receiving valuable instruction and mentorship.
One of the highlights of the day was the opportunity for our young players to interview Amerks team members, including Zach Metsa. The players shared insights into their hockey journeys, the dedication required to compete at the professional level, and what it takes to succeed in the sport. The mentorship and guidance provided by the Amerks players left a lasting impact on our young athletes.
The ‘Grow with the Pros’ Mentor Program aligns with the mission of the Professional Hockey Players’ Association (PHPA), which supports professional players in the AHL and ECHL while promoting hockey development at all levels. Programs like these help bridge the gap between aspiring young players and the professionals they look up to, fostering a deeper appreciation for the game and its values.
A huge thank you to Zach Metsa and the entire Rochester Americans organization for making this experience possible. It was a day our players will never forget, and we look forward to continuing to build this special connection between the Jr. Amerks and Rochester’s AHL team!
