Alum Jed Smith Commits to SUNY Oswego ACHA Division I Hockey

The Rochester Jr. Americans are proud to recognize alum Jed Smith on his commitment to SUNY Oswego, where he will continue his hockey career at the ACHA Division I level while pursuing his college education.

A 2006-born defenseman, Jed developed through the Rochester Jr. Americans organization and was a key member of several successful AAA teams throughout his youth hockey career. A big, steady defenseman known for his physical play, strong defensive awareness, and reliability in all situations, Jed established himself as one of the area’s top defensemen during his development years.

In addition to his success with the Jr. Amerks, Jed played high school hockey for Canandaigua Academy, where he continued to grow his game while representing his hometown community.

Following his youth hockey career, Jed advanced to the junior ranks, spending the past two seasons competing against high-level competition. During the 2024-25 season, he skated for the South Shore Kings organization in Massachusetts, appearing in 44 USPHL Premier games while also earning an NCDC call-up. He then moved to the New Hampshire Avalanche for the 2025-26 season, playing 41 games for one of the Eastern Hockey League’s premier programs and helping the Avalanche remain among the league’s top teams.

Throughout his junior career, Jed continued to refine his game and prove himself as a dependable two-way defenseman, earning the opportunity to advance to the collegiate level.

At SUNY Oswego, Jed will join one of the nation’s premier ACHA Division I hockey programs. The Lakers have established themselves as a perennial national contender and provide student-athletes with an outstanding combination of competitive hockey and academic opportunity.

Jed’s commitment is a testament to the dedication, perseverance, and hard work he has demonstrated throughout his hockey journey—from his early days in the Rochester Jr. Americans program to high school hockey in Canandaigua and junior hockey in New England.
